The Clinic -Top-

Liu Clinic was founded in Gunnersbury Avenue in 1975.

Prior to the establishment of the clinic, the building was in use as a nursing home.

It operated at one time with both in-patients and out- patients.

It now operates as a private clinic for outpatients only.

Liu Clinic set up a Faculty of Traditional Chinese Medicine (a Registered Charity) to teach Chinese Medicine. The faculty has now ceased and our interests are now represented indirectly by the Institute of Complementary Medicine

The Registration -Top-

Liu Clinic is registered and licensed for acupuncture and special treatment by the local authorities.

Our premises are inspected and certification issued confirming that we meet the required standards.

Please see the section on professional bodies for further details of the professional memberships and affiliation.

The Practitioner -Top-

The practitioner in Liu Clinic trained and qualified as a Doctor of Western Medicine in China before choosing to specialise in Traditional Chinese medicine. This specialisation required several additional years of training at University in China.

The regime of training in China is extremely strict and demands full time, 6 days and evenings a week, 46 weeks a year. These were not evening classes but professionally recognised medical qualifications.

After qualifying, the practitioner worked in a Hospital in China offering treatment on a regular basis followed by a year of lecturing at University before coming to England to practice.

A total of more than 20 years of professional experience are solid credentials.

The Philosophy -Top-

Though Chinese medicine is not well understood by western science, it is simple in practice:

Disrupted energy or Chi (or Qi) causes ill health in the body by becoming blocked or unbalanced in some way. When this vital energy does not flow easily and freely in the body, our constitution is weakened and we become susceptible to disease and illness.

To stay in good health the mind and the body must work together harmoniously. The treatment in Chinese medicine therefore attacks illness at its root; it does not just deal with the symptoms that Western Medicine is sometimes forced to do.

These are not new ideas; they date back 4000 years. The skills and methods were developed during that time are understood by skilled and experienced practitioners like those at Liu Clinic.

The range of ailments that we can treat is very wide but we specialise in treating conditions which are chronic and long standing as well as those related to the stress of modern life, general debility and joint & muscle pain.

The Professional Bodies -Top-

In addition to Fellowship of the Faculty of Traditional Chinese Medicine (FFTCM) we are members of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners (BRCP) via the Institute of Complementary Medicine (ICM).

We are recognised by the health insurance company - Hospital Savings Association - HSA Healthcare. They have the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and are a member of the Association of British Insurers.
